Baseball Drills

For any child wishing to play college or professional baseball, these baseball drills can come in handy. These are aimed at conditioning a person to play this highly popular and lucrative sport, and even make a career out of it. As is the norm with any other sport or profession, practice and conditioning are the only ways of getting better at them, and without some committed baseball training, a future in that respective field is virtually impossible.

The only way to develop technical abilities of the sport is to do many baseball drills. High school is usually the best place to start as the time, resources, and expertise are easily available there in order to carry out these drills. High school students, moreover, are young and enthusiastic and their bodies respond very well to these drills and exercises. The various drills focus on one aspect of the game at a time, be it batting, pitching, fielding, or just general fitness.

The importance of these drills is well-known amongst all baseball circles, and famous baseball players have been practicing them for many years with unflinching commitment. In order to reach that level of skill, a baseball player must strive to get better and constantly push and challenge himself to take his training to a whole new level.

High School Baseball Practice Drills

Some of the drills are aimed specifically at certain technical aspects of the game, whereas some drills focus on building up a player’s stamina, strength, agility, and mental understanding of the game. To be a good player, all these aspects must be honed and sharpened, and the idea is primarily to get as much fun and innovation as possible, in the process.

Fitness Drills
The main requisite of a good baseball player is high fitness. If a player keeps getting injured or tired easily, it will be extremely difficult to make it big. There are different kinds of baseball exercises that can be adopted for this purpose. Strong arms and shoulders are mandatory for this sport, and running and jogging also play a major part in building up stamina for the game. For a pitcher, in particular, the arms and shoulders need to be exercised a lot more. The pitching action can cause an injury in the arm sometimes, and baseball drills can considerably reduce this risk.
Pitching Baseball Drills
A pitcher is the most important player of the team, and for this purpose he needs to be fitter than other players. The pitcher is continuously pitching the ball throughout the innings, so his arms are bound to get tired sooner or later. In addition to strengthening his arms, the pitcher needs to master the technique of pitching. The standing position, the lifting of the leg, the follow through can all be perfected with pitching drills. The success rate of a team can only be high if they have a good pitcher who can strike the batters out. For this reason alone, most baseball drills for high schools primarily focus on the pitcher and improving his understanding of the game.

Basic Cheerleading Stunt

What do you remember when you think about a sports ground? Players, referee, audience and yes, cheerleaders. Cheerleaders are among the most enthusiastic people on the sports field. They encourage the players, make the environment more colorful and amaze the audience with some extraordinary stunts. Cheerleading started in America and then got world wide recognition and appreciation. It is no more just a fun game, as many people take it as a career option too. Starting with the cheerleading stunts for beginners to the most difficult stunts, everything whatever they do is beautiful and full of energy.
From high school sports team to the international sports teams, in US, every team has their own cheerleaders. These teams have a wonderful history of cheerleading and it is also one of the most coveted activities. It is a great combination of dance, gymnastics and athletic activities. To start as a beginner, you need to first make up your mind about it as it looks very easy but is not everyone’s cup of tea. So, if you have decided and are mentally prepared for this enthusiastic sport, then you need to start with the cheerleading stunts basics.
Clothes You Need to Wear
You must have noticed that the cheerleaders always wear the same colored clothes as the team they are supporting. This helps the audience to recognize the team they are cheering. They wear bright colorful clothes. Men wear shorts and matching colored sweaters and women wear blouses and skirts or shorts. As you are planning to start as a beginner, you could just buy a short skirt and a proper fitted blouse. Wear comfortable clothes as you have to do stunts and moves which will include stretches, jumps, etc., and yes, don’t forget to put on your sports shoes.

Basic Positions in the Stunts
If you are a beginner, you need to learn the basics very carefully. Dancing is fun and quite simple too but the stunts can make you go mad if not done correctly. The basic positions in a cheerleading stunt consists of the base, the flyer and the spotter. You should know all the three positions and should master at least one.The base is a person who gives the base to the stunt. To be a base, you need to develop strong legs as the base has to bear the weight of the flyer. The flyer is a person who performs the jumps and completes the stunt. To become a flyer, you have to work really hard and should always be careful. Now the last person in the stunt is the spotter. Spotter is usually the tallest person in the group. Their work is to catch the flyer in case of any falls. Spotter is the most important person as he/she makes the flyer secure and confident while performing the stunts.

Badminton Court

Badminton is a game that demands strength, agility, and precision. It is one of my personal favorites. To build a court for this game, one needs knowledge of the standard dimensions. The right dimensions ensure the right playing space. This article is aimed at discussing these court measurements, decided upon by the international body that regulates affairs, related to badminton.

The game has its origins in colonial India and has a special connection with the city of Pune, in India, where it was first played. A badminton court is designed for singles and doubles plays. It is sectioned in a fashion, that’s similar to a lawn tennis court, but the measurements are different, along with the rules.

It is necessary that the dimensions of a badminton court are standardized, as it is a game played at the international level. That’s why, if you are building a new court, it’s necessary that you have the right court size. It ensures that the court can be used for tournaments and gives it wider recognition. Precision matters when it comes to badminton and the same goes for the court dimensions. The rules are set by the Badminton World Federation.
Standard Badminton Court Dimensions
badminton court dimensions

To start with, let us understand the basic structure of a badminton court. Its shape is rectangular, and bisecting the court exactly at the center, is a hoisted net, set on parallel poles. This net divides the court into a playing space for opposite players.

The court is marked with lines that limit the playing space. There are separate bordering lines for singles and doubles play. There is a central line that runs in both halves of the court, subdividing it, into four parts.

The width of the court must be 20 feet or roughly 6.1 meters, according to international rules. The length is limited to 44 feet or roughly 13.4 meters. Each one of the white or yellow lines, that mark the court boundaries, should be precisely 40 mm in width. Therefore, the total play area of the court is 880 square feet Or 81.74 square meters.
In singles competitions, the court dimensions are a bit altered. The width of the court for singles is lesser and is limited to 17 feet or 5.18 meters, by an inner boundary line, while the length remains the same. Thus, in singles, the players can exploit the full length of the court, but not the entire width. In short, the court for singles is narrow, but long.

Performance Anxiety in Sports

Did You Know?
Gregory John Norman, a.k.a Greg Norman is an Australian golfer who retained the world number 1 ranking for almost a year. His aggressive golfing style and looks earned him the nickname of “The Great White Shark.” He has a glorified record, winning over 80 championships. However, he is also popular not just for his golf, but also for the game of 1996 Masters in Augusta, where this seasoned professional player gave in to performance anxiety and “choked.”
The world of sports has drastically changed from being the entertaining realm, to an ambit of pugnacity. In a competitive game, all physical and mental limits are stretched, providing the inevitable gap for anxiety to fill in. The pressure to retain the top spot and dominate the sport can get to you.

The coordinated movement that is required for athletic events becomes tough if your body is in a tense state. Certain amount of worry is okay and can help your performance, but too much of it can induce negative thoughts, affecting your self-confidence. If your performance during practice sessions and competitions displays a significant difference, anxiety may be affecting your performance. Although you may not totally get the better of it, there are many things you can try to reduce anxiety.
What is Performance Anxiety?

The feeling of restlessness and nervousness gradually leading to self-doubt is known as performance anxiety. It is common in stage artists and sportspersons, who are required to present themselves and their skills to a large crowd. It is believed that the pressure of attaining excellence as marked by the audience is one of the greatest triggers that causes a sportsperson to choke.

Types of Sports Anxiety
According to ‘Athletic Insight’, a journal of sports psychology, anxiety can be classified in two ways: trait anxiety and state anxiety. State anxiety is situational stress induced by situations in the game. A sportsperson’s autonomic nervous system is aroused in this state, which is the natural reaction of any individual. On the other hand, trait anxiety can be thought of as a world view that an individual uses when coping with stress.
In sports, individuals who are state anxious and low on the trait anxiety in tough situations, often deliver good performances consistently. On the other hand, athletes who have higher levels of trait anxiety, added with state anxiety, tend to perform below expectations.
What Causes Performance Anxiety?
Various psychologists have tried to figure out why is it during high tension situations that our brain fails to cope up and leads to a detrimental effect on our performance. Researches have shown that expert athletes behave like amateurs under pressure.
Unfamiliar Environment
During training and preparing for any competition, an athlete focuses on improving skills in a familiar environment. All the efforts taken and practice done are, thus, stored in the procedural memory. However, in a real competitive setup, the conscious awareness of unfamiliar grounds and the presence of a crowd corrupts the memory of the practiced game. It is also found that with more involved and encouraging crowds, the pressure to achieve the best is accentuated.
